A SSL Certificate is not a requirement of a good ecommerce site, and depending upon your ecommerce setup, it is not necessarily required.

Our cart tells their server how much to collect, the customer gives the bank their credit card information, the bank places the funds into your account and tells the cart the funds are collected and it is ok to complete the transaction.
